So, what's the difference between a trash can and a wastebasket?  Typically, size and the way they're used.  Wastebaskets are smaller and usually used by an individual or small group.  Trash cans are larger and usually in public areas, indoors or outdoors.  Many folks use the terms interchangeably, but Ava divides the two types to avoid wasting your time sorting through the two sizes.  Of course, there is always a bit of overlap, some wastebaskets are large enough to be perfectly suitable in areas with more traffic and some trash cans are fine for smaller areas.
